From the Kitchen: Creamy Sausage, Chicken & Veg Skillet
This is one of those meals that comes together with what you have on hand — and ends up being something you’ll want to make again.
It’s creamy, rich, full of flavor, and made entirely in one skillet. The combination of chicken and smoked sausage gives it a depth you don’t expect at first bite… and then suddenly you do, and it’s really, really good.
Ingredients
1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, cut into chunks
12 oz Applewood smoked sausage, sliced
1 small head cabbage, chopped
2 stalks broccoli, cut into florets
2 carrots, grated
¾ cup heavy cream (milk can be used as well)
Seasonings (to taste):
Salt
Black pepper
Garlic powder
Smoked paprika
Optional thickener:
Xanthan gum
OR cornstarch slurry
Instructions
1. Brown the meats
In a large skillet, cook the chicken over medium-high heat until lightly browned. Remove and set aside.
Add the smoked sausage and cook until it begins to brown and release flavor.
2. Cook the vegetables
Add the cabbage, broccoli, and grated carrots to the skillet.
Season generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.
Cook until the vegetables begin to soften and the cabbage cooks down.
3. Bring it together
Return the chicken to the skillet and mix everything together.
Pour in the heavy cream and stir well.
4. Simmer and thicken
Let the mixture simmer until heated through and slightly thickened.
If you prefer a thicker sauce, add a small amount of xanthan gum or a cornstarch slurry.
Notes
This dish is rich and filling — a little goes a long way.
The smoked paprika and carrots give it a beautiful color and warmth.
The combination of chicken and sausage adds great flavor and texture — the chicken stays incredibly tender.
This makes a full skillet and easily serves four people.
Serve as-is, or pair with bread or something sweet on the side if you’re not keeping it low carb.
A simple, hearty, one-pan meal — creamy, flavorful, and made with what you have From the Kitchen.
