I love Christmas trees! Over the years, I've decorated them in just about every theme imaginable. I've had everything from a 10-foot tree that required a ladder to decorate, to a little grove of pencil trees, to candy-themed trees and buffalo plaid.
Every year, I browse Christmas tree ideas online, then head to Hobby Lobby to see what catches my eye.
This year, I was torn between gingerbread and woodland. After wandering back and forth between the two aisles, the woodland theme won me over. There were deer, bears, owls, and the cutest little birds! I decided to stick with the birds and build my tree around them.
I added grapevine stars, acorns, wooden snowflakes, a few warm red ornaments, festive twigs, and fairy lights. The burlap angel was the perfect finishing touch.
I actually brought home more decorations than I needed. Once I had everything arranged, I realized the tree was beautiful just as it was!
I wanted to make the table beneath it part of the Christmas display, too. I added an old-fashioned lamp, a bowl of cinnamon-scented pinecones, twigs and dried fruit, and a decorative Christmas gift with a jingle bell.
But perhaps my favorite addition is my grandfather's Bible, opened to Luke 2 and the story of Jesus' birth.
"For today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord." — Luke 2:11 (NASB 1995)
There are certain things in life that simply bring us joy, and Christmas trees are one of those things for me. I love the decorations, the lights, and the warmth they bring to my home.
But as much as I enjoy all the beautiful things that come with Christmas, I never want to lose sight of why we celebrate. God loved us enough to send His Son into this world, knowing the sacrifice that would follow. That's a kind of love I can hardly comprehend, but one I'm so thankful for.
I think this little woodland tree might just be my favorite one yet. And every time I look at it, I hope I'll be reminded of the greatest gift we've ever been given. ❤️
