From the Farm: An Extraordinary Ordinary Day

Some days don’t make headlines… but they make a life.

This morning I picked a shirt full of tomatoes (and other veggies) from the garden.

Then I spent the day in the kitchen canning soup and cranberry peach conserve while the heat outside reminded me why July in Southern Illinois is no joke.

This evening I decided to visit the Carmi Farmers Market—not as a vendor, but as a customer. There were only a handful of vendors and shoppers. Between the White County Fair and this relentless heat, it was a quiet evening, but I found some more fresh peaches and a cantaloupe.

From there, I stopped by the fair for my weekly pork chop sandwich and a cold bottle of water before heading home.

The evening ended by unloading my truck, mowing the yard, taking a long shower, and eating a fresh peach I picked up at the market.

Now I’m sitting here with a tall glass of ice water, grateful for a full day.

Nothing extraordinary happened today.

No big sales.

No exciting announcement.

No grand adventure.

Just tomatoes, canning jars, a farmers market, a county fair, a freshly mowed yard, and a sweet peach.

And maybe that’s the point.

Sometimes the richest days aren’t the ones we remember because something incredible happened. They’re the ones that quietly remind us how blessed we already are.

I hope today gave you one small moment that made you smile.
